General News

2nd Hand Uniform Sale

PBC was able to raise $1,021 at the recent 2nd hand uniform sale! This is a great result and all monies will go into student welfare projects. Thank you to all our customers for their great support.

PBC Sustainability Program

At PBC, we are committed to reducing our environmental footprint. At the end of 2018, a group of enthusiastic and environmentally-conscious middle school students sorted through a large quantity of general waste to determine exactly what we were throwing away on a weekly basis. The students identified that a significant proportion of what ends up in our bins could actually be recycled or composted. By removing recyclables, organic waste, e-waste and CDS-eligible containers from our general waste stream, we can divert waste from landfill, save money on our waste bills and even generate some additional revenue for the school. Later this term we will announce our plans to revolutionise the way PBC manages our waste. #redsgogreen

Legal Studies

This term, eleven Year 11 Legal Studies students had the opportunity to compete in the annual Reeves Lawyers Mooting Competition. Student teams representing either the prosecution or the defence, were required to cross-examine a witness and present a summation of their arguments to the court. This year’s case involved a criminal charge of Wilful Damage. They spent 6 weeks preparing and their oral submissions received excellent feedback. Well done Erin Woods, Jazmine Jones, Matilda Yates, Zoe Jenner, Holly Milcs, Samantha Gorton, Gracie Denning, Rilee Beasley, Brooke Swindells, Akiri Tracy and Toby Cooper.

International Study Tours

PBC recently welcomed the Kokuren Study Tour group from Japan. The students came from different schools and spent 12 days visiting the Gold Coast and its attractions. Students are all home stayed with local families and participated in a variety of activities such as Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, Movie World, Paradise Country, shopping in Surfers Paradise and beach walking. The tour is a great experience for both the international students and their PBC buddies.

Drama Excellence

Year 9 Drama Excellence students attended an experience day at the QLD Theatre Company as a part of the Scene Project yesterday.

PBC were one of 71 Queensland schools selected to be a part of the program whereby a director from QTC works with our students on a newly commissioned script to develop a performance. All students performed beautifully, with feedback given focussed on the excellent ensemble work and creative use of space.

Creative Generation State Schools Onstage

Two weeks ago Ms Skyring chaperoned  a number students to attend Creative Generation State Schools Onstage at the Brisbane Convention centre. Year 12 Music Excellence student Regan Hickey (Bass Guitarist) and Year 10 Dance Excellence student Mia Beame (Featured Dancer) were an outstanding representation of PBC and the talent we have here on the Southern Gold Coast. Congratulations to the students for fulfilling the immense commitment to this project and their parents and Mrs Bek Shinn for the support they provided during this exceptionally busy time.

PBC's Jazz Night

The Jazz night is a biannual event that features the PBC Stage Band 1 and Stage Band 2. Jazz Night runs as an extension of the Music Celebration Festival which was held on Monday 22 July, where instrumental music students and families celebrated with the community, the joy of playing and listening to music. This year we are very lucky to extend a warm welcome to Laurence Hobgood and RHIANNON, internationally acclaimed and Grammy award winning jazz artists as well as the Liam Butler Gipsy jazz trio to the festivities.

The evening will be held in the Theatre and Trade Training Centre, where guests will be treated to the incredible food and services of the PBC student catering team. It is set to be a great event. There are still some tickets available! Telephone Student Services to secure your seats on 55259308.
