Boss Entrepreneur Program

100 students had the opportunity to take part in the $30 Boss Entrepreneur Program, which is recognized as a nationwide, in-school entrepreneurship program focused on the development of enterprise skills such as financial capability and problem-solving in young people. The Boss Program is developed by the Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) in consultation with students and educators.

The program design allocates students $30 in start-up capital to create, launch, and operate a business venture over the course of one school term and is about putting enterprise skills at the forefront of learning. This opportunity would not have been possible without the incredible financial support from the Southern Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce, which generously donated $2000 towards this worthwhile venture! We deeply appreciate their dedication to encouraging innovative and enterprise-enriched learning experiences for Gold Coast students.

During the term, students were tasked with creating businesses that were environmentally sustainable, which also linked to their own carefully selected social enterprises. The groups embraced the opportunity to show that businesses are able to do more than simply make a profit, by incorporating the benefits of supporting a wide range of community-based charities and initiatives such as Livin, The Animal Welfare League, and Rosie's, to name a few.

This year there were 32 amazing and well-presented stalls offering a wide range of items from trendy jewellery, scrumptious wintry pastries, ethically-sourced hair accessories, succulent plants in upcycled jars, fluffy fairy floss, delicious homemade shortbreads, caramel-infused brownies, mouth-watering pancakes, and funky homemade gifts. It was wonderful to see the student teams so immersed in the event and excited by the items and services they had produced. The event was bigger and better than previous years, student engagement was high, and we achieved a very healthy profit of $2342. Once again, this would not have been possible without the financial support of the Southern Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce.
