Semester 1 Reports

Academic Semester 1 reports for Years 7-9 will be emailed home on Friday, 23 June 2023. Should you need to change your current email address please email ParentSupport@pbc-shs.eq.edu.au.  An N rating may be applied to any student or individual subject where there is insufficient summative assessment to assign a level of achievement. This can occur due to extended absence or failure to submit assessment. Parents are encouraged to connect with individual teachers if you have any concerns based on the reported student progress.     

Optima Code - Be a Learner 

Every day counts... a day here or there doesn’t seem like much, but did you know that if you miss just one day each fortnight it is equal to 20 days per year, which is 4 weeks per year, and therefore, from Prep to Year 12 that is nearly 1 ½ years of school that is missed. This means that the best your child can achieve is equal to finishing Year 11.   

Being at school and being ready to learn is vital in student academic achievement, effort and behaviour. When we speak about being ‘Ready to Learn’ we are talking about having the right equipment, such as, textbook, pencil case, calculator and a charged laptop, so that we can be fully engaged with classroom activities and tasks. Being ‘Ready to Learn’ is also about our mental health, ensuring that we are eating healthy, exercising, limiting our technology and getting enough sleep at night.  

By ‘Being a Learner’ and following the Optima Code, students can receive Optima slips and Optima postcards, which can earn Optima credits, and then exchange these credits for rewards. Please refer to the Optima Credit Menu for prizes. 

Student Tutoring 

To support our Junior Secondary students there is student tutoring available every Monday Period 4 1.45-3 pm on the top floor of the Library and Thursday 3.25pm – 4pm in IDT rooms. 

Staff email addresses are available on the PBC website and we encourage parent/carers to email your child’s academic teacher if you have any questions or concerns.  

Elective Changeovers and Subject Selection for 2024 

Year 7 and Year 8 will change over to two other electives in Semester 2 so that they have sampled The Arts, Spanish, HPE and Technology. Some exceptions exist for Excellence Programs. Year 9's will change 2 electives also so that in total they will have trialed four subjects this year. This sampling is all to enable students to make better choices for senior school in the subjects that they choose.  

Year 8 students next term wil get to select 4 subjects they will study for one semester each beyond English, Maths, Humanities/HPE and Science for Year 9 2024 and Year 9's will get to choose three subjects that they will study for the whole year plus English, Maths and Science.   

Work Experience Forms Year 9 

The completed forms are to be returned to A Block Junior Secondary Student Services office by the end of Week 5 Term 3 (11 August 2023).

Term 3 Timetables will be emailed to all students during the School Holidays.
