Senior Secondary Update

Thankyou to all Senior Students for a settled start to Term 2, despite the interruptions of ANZAC and Labour Days. It was once again a privilege to pause with our school community and acknowledge our ANZACs at both our school and wider-community ceremonies. A hearty thankyou to our Student Leaders for running our school commemorations and all students for their conduct and respect of this occasion.

For all who would like to re-live the Dawn Service ANZAC Speech delivered by our School Captains, Keeley Parker and Sean Lunney at Elephant Rock, please follow this link - https://youtu.be/EF-kZX9ePPI

Both Keeley and Sean are to be warmly congratulated, they represented themselves, their generation and our community with valour in what can be a nerve-wracking experience. We are so proud to have them represent PBC.

Report Cards

All Year 10 and Year 12 students have now received their first report card for 2023. For Year 10's this marks the first checkpoint and feedback opportunity in Senior School. Year 10's have been briefed on the importance of Term 2 results, as Semester 1 report cards will dictate which study pathways and subjects all students can select as part of their Year 11 studies (SET Plan process).

Year 12 students have received their Unit 3 report cards. This is their 2nd last report of their schooling. Year 12 students can expect to have both ATAR mentoring and performance mentoring conversations with senior teachers, and in some instances parents in the coming weeks.

Year 12 Graduation Ceremony & Formal Dinner

Communications regarding the upcoming Year 12 Graduation Ceremony & Formal Dinner, to be held at the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre on Friday 17 November 2023 were sent home this week. Please contact Senior Secondary for any further information regarding this landmark event.

Year 11

Year 11 students are busy preparing for exams commencing in week 5, 15 May and finalizing Unit 1 assessment. The exam timetable has been published on the school website under curriculum-testing and assessment.

Subject changes for Year 11 students will open at the end of Unit 1 (19 May).

Griffith University On-Campus Experience Day

On the last GC6 day a group of Year 11 and 12 students visited Griffith University Gold Coast for an on campus experience day. The students were given the opportunity to tour the campus, speak with current students, engage in activities relating to current GU courses and ask as many questions as they wanted regarding applications and courses, clubs and extra-curricular and Uni life in general.

It was a great day where our students again represented our school with pride.

Study skills bite

The Retrieval effect:

Students may see an inability to remember as an obstacle but they should be encouraged to understand that this is an opportunity for learning to take place. The more difficult the retrieval practice, the better it can be for long-term learning. Quick, regular, low-stakes questioning or quizzes that exercise memory, along with practice problems and writing prompts, dramatically improves student learning.

Meningococcal Immunisations for PBC Year 10 students via GC Health

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

PBC, in conjunction with the Gold Coast Public Health Unit, have secured an opportunity for all Year 10 students to take advantage of a free vaccination against meningococcal ACWY. This service will take place at PBC on Tuesday 6 June 2023 for Year 10 students only. The immunisations are delivered by the Gold Coast Public Health immunisation team.

You should soon be receiving an email directly from GC Health, to the email address you have nominated with the school (ensure to check your junk mail folder also). Please complete this form online to ensure your student gains permission to receive this immunisation. Qld Health officials will not accept verbal consent this year and only accept those students who register online.

If you haven’t received this email or would like some further information regarding the program you can contact the Gold Coast Public Health’s immunisation team on:

The immunisations will commence at 9am and the students will receive information about when to leave class to attend, closer to the day. It is advised that the students have breakfast prior to having the immunisation.
