One of the benefits of attending science club regularly is the opportunity to participate in further extra-curricular activities. This term’s theme is the marine environment, so ‘clubbers’ participated in a marine experience provided by Ocean Stars Marine Education. The science club incursion provided an opportunity for students to explore the deep sea through virtual reality. Equipped with VR headsets, students were able to dive into the layers of the ocean, from the sunlight zone to the abyss, and observe the organisms living there, gaining knowledge on how they have adapted to survive. After this guided journey, students were free to embark on their own VR adventures and interact with ocean creatures. Some students chose to venture to the Bahamas to dive with hammerhead sharks, experiencing the thrill of getting too close to the sharks as they bit down on the camera. The students were fully immersed in the experience, some even attempting to swim in the classroom. Through this interactive learning experience, students shared their prior knowledge and absorbed new information.
