Junior Secondary Update

Year 7 Optima Assembly

On Thursday 4 May, we gathered to formally acknowledge the outstanding achievements of many of our Year 7 cohort in Term 1, 2023. Many students worked hard in Term 1, across many areas to demonstrate their potential and talents. We were pleased to acknowledge over 140 students. These awards were presented to students who achieved outstanding results in their academic work and sporting fields. All award recipients should be extremely proud of their efforts, all displaying outstanding commitments to their studies and sport. We wish you all the best in maintaining these high standards as the year progresses. Congratulations again to all OPTIMA award recipients for Term 1, 2023.

Year 7 Camp – Term 4

On the 9 to 11 October 2023, the Year 7s will have an opportunity to attend an amazing camp at YMCA Camp Warrawee.

This camp is one of the most beneficial character-building high school camps around!  During this survival themed camp, students will participate in a number of outdoor activities, such as, canoeing, raft building, indoor climbing, giant swing, abseiling, high ropes and obstacle courses to build teamwork, problem solving, leadership and resilience skills.

It will sure be an action-packed three days.

The cost of camp is $320 and the total cost must be paid in full by 31 August 2023. This includes all meals, accommodation, bus and activities.

Work Experience 2023

Year 9 students have the opportunity to participate in Work Experience during Term 3 Week 10.  With over 440 students seeking Work Experience positions will be in demand and we encourage students to start the process now.

This experience may enable students to participate in Work Experience as an opportunity to trial for a school Based Certificate III Traineeship in Year 10 or 11.

All Year 9 students received a Parent and Caregiver information form and a Work Experience Employer Information form at the Year 9 assembly. Any student that was absent and did not receive a form must go to A Block Junior Secondary Services to collect the forms.

Work Experience Placements for School Student forms requires a student and parent signature. When a willing employer is found they must complete and sign the Work Experience Placement for School Students form and the Risk Assessment form.

The completed forms are to be returned to A Block Junior Secondary Student Services office by the end of Week 5 Term 3 (11 August 2023).

Engagement

Each month parents receive an email showing them how their child's attendance is tracking. Our biggest concern at the moment is supporting students who’s attendance has dropped below 85% as often these students are needing additional support to catch up or may be disengaging from school for different reasons. As a parent or guardian if you have concerns about how connected your child is with their school life please reach out to someone on staff about this concern.
