QLD Global Youth Summit Student Advisory Council

Thew_Luca.jpg
Congratulations to Luca Thew Year 8, who has successfully gained a position on the inaugural 2023 Queensland Global Youth Summit Student Advisory Council.

The 2023 Queensland Global Youth Summit and accompanying workshops kick off in July and bring together Year 8 to 10 students from various schools to foster global competence. The program consists of four synchronous online workshops and several asynchronous learning activities. The program will culminate in an all-day, in-person Summit for students.

The Summit and workshops are designed to enhance students' knowledge and understanding of global competence, perspectives, diversity, the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, effective communication, collaboration, and presentation skills. Throughout the program, students will consider how they can "think globally, act locally" by developing a range of actions to promote inclusivity and equity in their local school communities, which they will showcase at the Summit in October.

PBC Family in need

Please help. This week as we discuss the importance of remembering the fallen and helping our veterans, we want to talk about one soldier in particular. Remuna Avaemai (26) is a PBC alumni who lives locally where he has a young daughter Maeva.

On Friday 14 April, a week before he was about to return to Australia for his daughters 7th birthday; Remuna was in Bali for a quick break in between jobs when he was involved in an accident that has changed his whole course of his life.

Sadly, Remuna, ended up in Bali's hospital emergency care after being knocked off his scooter in a forever-changing, heartbreaking accident and was left fighting for his life.
At this stage Remuna the family has been able to fly Remuna home to a local hospital; the family are asking for donations to support Remuna & to cover medical costs in regards to Remuna’s retrieval from Bali & ongoing health needs. He is now safe & local which was the biggest priority, however there are still costs that need to be covered and the family’s personal funds are running very low.
