QLD Women’s Origin team visit

Before the holidays we saw our Open Rugby League Boys have the great opportunity to run opposed vs the QLD Women’s Origin side for the second year in a row. Led by Jillaroo captain Ali Brigginshaw and with PBC alumni Tazmin Gray, Amber Pilley and Jessika Elliston in the side, it was a high energy contest with both teams preparing for their own Origin Battles that week.

Digital Innovations

Year 8 Digital Innovation students have finished off the term by hosting a tradeshow. Students were to develop an idea for a mobile application, build a prototype of the app and develop an advertisement to show to potential 'investors'. We invited parents and students to attend and to vote for the app they felt would be the most successful. All students did an exceptional job at producing an app but the winning team was "Snake-it". An app designed to recognise snakes, give the user details on how dangerous it is and if needed, call a professional to relocate it.  Highly commended also went to "D2D", an app for managing donations to different charities and "onBus", an app designed to organise and track public transport travel and notify caregivers when children miss their bus.

$20 Boss Competition

What could your students do with $20? The answer might surprise you! Year 9 Economics and Business Students at PBC have recently participated in the $20 Boss Competition - a nationwide in-school entrepreneurship program. Students were given $20 of start-up capital donated by The National Australia Bank to create, launch and operate a business venture over the course of the school term. Students created their own products and businesses from the ground up with the aim of raising as much profit as possible. We have seen businesses including the creation of surf wax, all kinds of unique baked goods, games, challenges, bath bombs, artwork and many more. All businesses are to utilise the principle of innovation to create a financially sustainable enterprise. Well done to all involved.

Help your child to learn

Did you know that there are some simple things parents can do to help their children learn across all year levels?  Talking with your child about their learning and goals, and limiting screen time can make a difference.
