New Proficiency Standards for Naplan

From this year, parents and caregivers will get earlier, simpler and clearer information about their child’s NAPLAN achievement based on new, more rigorous national standards.

NAPLAN results will now be reported as proficiency standards with 4 levels of achievement for each year level:

  • Exceeding
  • Strong
  • Developing
  • Needs additional support.

This replaces the previous 10-band structure.  Combined with the new, March test timeline, parents and caregivers will get earlier, simpler and clearer information about their child’s literacy and numeracy achievement based on new, more rigorous national standards.

Student reports will continue to show the national average and the range of achievement for the middle 60 per cent of students in their year level, allowing comparison of a child’s achievement against these measures. Detailed information on the knowledge and skills being measured in each NAPLAN assessment will be made available on the NAP website.

Assessment and Reports

Our Junior Secondary students are heading into assessment time.  We recommend that families have a look at their year level assessment calendars together, in order to assist your student to plan and prepare for their upcoming assessments.  The assessment calendars can be found on our school website at:  https://pbc-shs.eq.edu.au/curriculum/testing-and-assessment.

Term 1 Report Cards for junior secondary students will be emailed to parents/caregivers on the last day of term, so please ensure your email address is current.

Junior Secondary Camps

This week we are seeking input from students about the camp offerings in 2022 with a view to planning for 2023 and beyond. Watch this space about the possibility of this experience for Year 7 and 8 this year.

Taking Student Opinions Seriously

This week we launched a new inbox for students to provide suggestions, input or feedback about all aspects of school. This inbox will be managed by campus principals Anita Sgalippa and Alyce Bradford. Students will receive a response within 48 hours, as per our parent support email, and students will be informed about changes that come into effect as a result of opinions raised or why these ideas can't be operationalised due to constraints.

The email address for student opinions is:  studentopinions@pbc-shs.eq.edu.au

Attendance

Hopefully you will have received the monthly attendance check via email. Below is a graph that shows the significance of the different percentages across a term. If you would like to discuss your child's attendance please contact the Head of Year or Deputy Principal for their year level.
